SciFinder is a research discovery tool that allows users to explore the CAS databases that contain literature from many scientific disciplines including biomedical sciences, chemistry, engineering, materials science, agricultural science, and more! You can explore one single source for scientific information in journals and patent literature from around the world.
Until now, MSU faculty, staff and students had to download a copy of the software onto their computer in order to use SciFinder Scholar. Now, users can use a web version to search the CAS database.
In order to use the web version, faculty, staff and students have to create an account on the SciFinder Scholar server. This must be done on campus; however, once you create your account you will be able to use the web version off campus as well as on campus.
To create your personal account:
The Library has currently allocated 1 simultaneous user to the Web version. This means that only 1 person can use the web version at a time. Please be sure to logoff when you are finished with your research. As we see more users gravitating to the web version we will allocate additional users to the Web version.
CAS does continue to support the Windows/Mac based version of SciFinder; however, at some point in the future we suspect that they will discontinue the software version and migrate all usage to the web version. At this time, you may continue to use the software based version as well as the web version.
