Library News

The Mississippi State University Libraries is pleased to announce the addition of over 270 audio files to the G. V. “Sonny” Montgomery Digital Collection. These files contain Congressman Montgomery’s Weekly Radio Reports from August 1991 to November 1996.

These audio files cover the final years of Congressman Montgomery’s service in the United States House of Representatives and include his conversations with Congressional colleagues such as Susan Molinari of New York, Dennis Hastert of Illinois, and Jim Cooper of Tennessee.

Congressman Montgomery used his Weekly Radio Reports (which he began in 1967 and continued to produce every week for his entire career; the reel-to-reel tapes of the reports from 1967 to 1990 are housed in the Congressional and Political Research Center and are available for researchers) to discuss national and local issues that impacted his District. Topics include: Base closures, budget cuts to the National Guard, Iraq, Yugoslavia, Somalia, Veteran’s Affairs, gays in the military, health care reform, and the Montgomery G. I. Bill.

The collection can be accessed through the MSU Libraries Congressional and Political Research Center Digital Collections at the following URL: http://digital.library.msstate.edu/collections/cprc/index.html.
