Mississippi State University Libraries, as a member of the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL), has recently entered into an agreement with Sage Publications to increase substantially users’ online access to Sage’s e-journals. As a result of this agreement, MSU users now have online access to an additional 360 journals from Sage Publications, whose journals encompass the subject disciplines of Life Science, Medicine, Physical Science and Social Science.
Previously, MSU users only had online access to 91 Sage titles, but with the new agreement, MSU users now have access to 451 titles, which contain over 140,000 peer-reviewed, full-text articles. Although the MSU main campus library will no longer receive print copies of the Sage journals included in the package, MSU Libraries and their patrons will have access to the back files from 1999 to the present for all Sage journals included in the agreement.
The Sage Premier package includes journals published across forty disciplines and an extensive list of STM (Science, Technical, and Medical) titles as well. Over 46 percent of these journals are covered in the Thomson Scientific Databases, 51 of which rank within the top 10 in their subject category in the 2005 ISI Journal Citation Reports®. This journal package also represents one of the largest collections in the social sciences.
June Schmidt, MSU Libraries’ Associate Dean for Technical Services, believes that the Sage agreement will be of tremendous benefit to the faculty, staff, and students of MSU. "Because of our membership in ASERL, MSU Libraries is able to offer our patrons about four times as many Sage journals as we have had in the past," said Schmidt. "This is a great boon to all of our students and faculty. It’s especially exciting to be able to add these journals in an electronic format, which so many of our patrons prefer compared to print."
The Sage Premier agreement will continue through December 2009. For additional information about this agreement, contact the MSU Libraries Serials Department at firstname.lastname@example.org.
