Genealogists and historians will have their yearly meeting of the minds—and of family trees—at the Mississippi State University Libraries in June.
In its eighth year, the MSU GenFair celebrates family heritage with presentations and discussions led by local and national genealogists.
“We’re looking forward to an excellent Fair this year,” says Betty Self, MSU Libraries Special Collections assistant. “Even in the past years when the weather has been bad, we’ve had great attendance, so we’re hoping for the same with this Fair. We’re excited to be hosting this event again.”
Sponsored by the MSU Libraries, the Clay County Genealogical Society, and the Oktibbeha and Choctaw County Historical and Genealogical Societies, this year’s GenFair comes a little later in the summer than in previous years. The 2006 GenFair will be held on Saturday, June 24th at Mitchell Memorial Library on the MSU campus, beginning with registration at 9:30 a.m. Tours of the MSU archives, meetings with and presentations by local genealogists, and opportunities for further research will follow until 3:30 p.m.
Registration for the GenFair is free but limited to 100 participants. A boxed lunch is available for request before noon on June 8th at a purchase price of $8.
Anyone interested in pre-registering and reserving a boxed lunch for this year’s Fair is encouraged to contact Beth Jackson at 662.325.0813.
