Edwina S. Campbell is a former U.S. Foreign Service officer who worked on several presidential visits and summit meetings during her years with the Department of State. After leaving the diplomatic service, she taught American foreign policy at the University of Virginia, was a professor of grand strategy at National Defense University, and retired in 2014 as a professor of national security studies at Air University. Since 1985, she has been a frequent practitioner of public diplomacy for the U.S. Information Agency and the Department of State. Campbell's numerous publications include Germany's Past and Europe’s Future: The Challenges of West German Foreign Policy and The Relevance of American Power: The Anglo-American Past and the Euro-Atlantic Future. Her forthcoming book, Citizen of a Wider Commonwealth: Ulysses S. Grant's Postpresidential Diplomacy, will be available in hardback April 21, and is available now for pre-order on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and at other retailers. ¬†Campbell used the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library's collection extensively for her research in her latest book.

Ryan Lawrence

Ryan WesLee Lawrence is an undergraduate student at Mississippi State University who is majoring in both history and philosophy with an emphasis on religion. He grew up in Starkville, Mississippi and graduated valedictorian from Starkville Christian School. Lawrence will be graduating from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Arts this year. He has been accepted into the Masters of Theology program at Dallas Theological Seminary, which he will begin in August. Upon completing his Masters of Theology, he plans to earn a PhD and pursue a career in teaching and researching as a professor at a university or seminary. Lawrence has been a student worker at the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library since February 2014. His presentation entitled "Mutual Misunderstandings: A Study on Ida Honoré Grant's Austrian Experience" centers on the transnational interactions and cultural interpretations between Ida Grant and the Austrian aristocracy during Fred Grant's appointment as minister to Austria from 1889 until 1893.
