The MaxxSouth Digital Media Center is a multi-media collaborative space equipped with technology designed to propel teaching, learning, exploration and research among Mississippi State University students, faculty and staff. The newly renovated space features a television studio, an audio and video studio, a collaboration studio, a makerspace, multimedia lab and the CAVS Mixed Reality Studio.
To promote digital literacy and technological knowledge, the MaxxSouth Digital Media Center aims to empower all users to become independent and proficient in developing high-end, multi-media content and exploring and using the latest technologies.
The MaxxSouth Digital Media Center staff assists patrons through formal and informal instruction, including open workshops; tailored workshops for classes, departments and organizations; and one-on-one assistance. One core value of the new center is to empower its users to become comfortable and proficient in design, production, creation and editing, in a way that builds on their overall skill set. The center's multimedia lab provides 16 PCs, 8 Macs, 3 music composition stations, and a video capture station, with all computers being equipped with the latest in software programs including the Adobe Creative Suite, the AutoDesk Suite, and Microsoft Office. The Center also provides a makerspace where collaborative creating is encouraged. The center's makerspace features 2 3D printers, a 3D scanner, a Cricut, a Silhouette, a heat press, two sewing machines, and a variety of sewing and crafting supplies; and the CAVS Mixed Reality Studio offers 3 Oculus Rifts, 2 HTC Vives, and 2 Microsoft Hololenses. The MaxxSouth Digital Media Center also has a tool library that offers screwdriving kits, wrench sets, drills, sockets, hammers, jumper cables and more for checkout. Other services offered through the center include media checkout, equipment checkout, color printing, and wide-format printing.
