The Morris W. H. (Bill) Collins Speaker Series brings leading figures of the day to the Mississippi State University campus to engage in close and personal discussions about their lives and careers. Each meeting takes place at the Mitchell Memorial Library in The John Grisham Room.
Wayne W. Weidie, an MSU alumnus, was a newspaper publisher and editor; a political columnist, blogger, analyst, and consultant; a president of the Mississippi Press Association and the MPA Education Foundation Board of Directors; a manager of several political campaigns; and Chief of Staff to Mississippi Representative Gene Taylor. He served as a member of MSU's Stennis Institute of Government Advisory Board and was instrumental in the establishment of the Stennis-Montgomery Association. In 1993, Wayne donated his professional and personal papers from his journalism and congressional careers to the Congressional and Political Research Center at the MSU Libraries. Wayne Weidie died on August 15, 2019 at his residence in Venice, Florida.
