Many families and individuals find themselves in possession of materials having historical significance, but they are often unsure how to preserve them for the future. In many cases, the CHARM collection may be the answer.

If the materials are suitable, the MSU Libraries will gladly add them to the CHARM collection, preserving and cataloging them for access by scholars as well as the general public. Many of the items will be reproduced in electronic form for worldwide access via the Internet.

The CHARM project seeks many types of historical items related to agriculture, forestry, and rural life. Examples are:

  • Diaries
  • Letters
  • Photographs and sketches
  • Maps
  • Biographical material
  • Sound recordings
  • Movies or videos
  • Organizational records
  • Audio recordings
  • Ledgers and other records of farms and businesses
  • Publications, including histories, research reports, governmental reports, periodicals, pamphlets and brochures, and fair catalogs and premium lists

To donate materials, see our Donation Policy. To make a financial contribution, see Giving to the MSU Libraries.
